Hong Yan received his Ph.D. degree from Yale University. He was a professor in electrical and information engineering at the University of Sydney and is currently a professor in electronic engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He is a fellow of IEEE, IAPR and IEAust.

Professor Yan's research interests include:

    * DNA sequence and microarray data analysis
    * Handwriting recognition and document image analysis
    * Human face image analysis and recognition
    * Magnetic resonance image (MRI) reconstruction
    * Projection onto convex sets, clustering and biclustering algorithms
    * Real-time lip-sync and facial animation for mobile entertainment
