Memorial of Prof MEI, Kwan Hsiang Kenneth

Professor MEI, Kwan Hsiang Kenneth (1932-2017)

Professor Emeritus, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences,
The University of California-Berkeley

Honorary Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering,
City University of Hong Kong (CityU)

We are very sad to learn that our colleague and good friend Prof Kenneth K. Mei passed away in Oakland, California in USA on 16 February 2017. Prof Mei had a distinguished career of 32-years at the University of California-Berkeley before joining CityU in 1994. He was credited to many innovations in Computational Electromagnetics including publishing the first paper on casting Maxwell’s equation into a system of linear equations which is later known as the Method of Moments, the Uni-Moment Method, Super Absorbing Boundary Condition, Measured Equation of Invariance, and Maxwellian Circuits.

He was elected a Fellow of IEEE in 1979, and received the 2009 IEEE Electromagnetics Award. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at CityU in 1994 and was the Director of Wireless Communications Research Centre for the University in late 1990s. He was an Honorary Professor at CityU since 2007. At CityU, Prof Mei had trained many young researchers both in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Many of them have now become leading scholars in the field.

May he be rest in peace, and our condolences to his family.
