Admission (for 2018 Entry)

The world today is interconnected via a myriad of communication channels whether it is through wires or wireless. This can be seen everywhere whether you are walking in the streets or travelling on the bus, nearly everyone can be seen checking emails, viewing the latest social news or even playing games. Everyone expects connectivity anywhere and at any time, but very few recognize the technology or the complexity involved, that requires both hardware and software. The Electronic Engineering Department offers majors that allow these technologies to function seamlessly across continents whether for work or for play. We offer three majors of depth that prepares students for their technology driven career path and beyond, yet broad enough to allow them to pursue other career paths.

Admission Arrangements

JUPAS Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Applicants

JUPAS HKDSE students will apply for admission to the Department of Electronic Engineering (JS1205) of College of Science and Engineering. Students will enter a major after one year of study. During their first year, students will study a broad range of Gateway Education (GE) and College/ Department core courses. At the end of the first year, the top 40% of students [based on (i) cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of Semester B; (ii) no failed grades in any courses in Semesters A and B; and (iii) completion of at least 30 credit units in Semesters A and B, including the number of credit units earned from College Requirements, College Specified GE courses and Department-Specified courses] will have free choice of majors offered by the Department. The other 60% of students will be allocated a major of their choice, subject to availability of places and the selection criteria set by the Department of Electronic Engineering.

Non-JUPAS Direct Applicants

Applicants holding a 12-year school-leaving qualification or a partially completed sub-degree qualification will be considered for direct admission to the Department of Electronic Engineering for first-year studies.

Applicants holding a 13-year school-leaving qualification, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or a General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCEAL), or Bachelor's Degree Study, or an Associate Degree (AD) / Higher Diploma (HD) qualification, may apply for admission to a major programme offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering with Advanced Standing I/II.
