Student innovative design ideas showcased through their UG Final Year Projects / PG Dissertation

The UG Final Year Project is a major component of the major. It is aimed to provide a vehicle whereby the student can integrate ideas, concepts and skills obtained during the study and channel them into the production of a novel idea or a product.

The PG dissertation aims to provide students with an opportunity to integrate and apply what has been learnt in the taught courses to complete a specialist project to develop their initiative, interests, and individual thinking via discovery learning. After the completion of the dissertation, the students should have a deeper understanding on the specialist area.

    Dissertation: Balancing Robot Fuzzy Control of the Tilt Angle and Communications with Android Devices by Javier Dominguez (An exchange student in 2014/15)
    Two-wheeled-robot is an inherent unstable system and it must be made to maintain the upright position at all time.
    The main goal of the project was to demonstrate how such a system can be remotely controlled by the use of fuzzy control technique via the functionality of Wi-Fi module already installed on the robot with communication link to an android device. The control scheme utilizes the sophisticated estimation theory where the signals are obtained from the gyroscope and accelerometer embedded within the robot. The android has a well thought communication interface so that any change of parameters will directly cause the real time performance of the robot. A visual display mode is in place at the android screen so that the real time but corresponding firing fuzzy rules can be seen. In addition, the android is also made to serve as a driving dashboard for manipulating the movement of robot freely in all directions.
