Introduction

Electronic Engineering (EE) is recognized as an area of strength at CityU in terms of international competitiveness, critical mass, staff and student outputs and awards obtained. Achievements by staff of the Department have received international recognition from the following prestigious professional bodies and national academies:

• Thirteen Fellows of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FIEEE)
• One Fellow of The Optical Society of America
• Five Fellows of The Institution of Engineering and Technology
• Three Fellows of The Chinese Institute of Electronics
• Four Fellows of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers
• One Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering
• Three Croucher Foundation Senior Research Fellows
• One Fellow of The International Association for Pattern Recognition

Among these awards, Fellowship of IEEE is regarded internationally as the main benchmark in this discipline for professional society recognition. Nine of the FIEEEs were elected after serving at CityU for over six years and they were recognized mainly for their work done at CityU. A staff profile of this level is comparable to any excellent departments in Hong Kong and overseas prestigious universities.
