Programme Aim
The MSc programme aims to provide an enhancement of specialist technical knowledge
in strategically selected areas, such as RF circuits & applied electromagnetics, wireless communications, networking & data communications, and optical communications that are relevant
to the current and anticipated future needs from industry. Due to the rapid
advances of existing technologies, the programme is designed for practicing
engineers who want to upgrade and update their knowledge in this field.
The programme also offers a good selection of business management electives,
preparing engineers with knowledge on top of their technical fronts to take up
managerial positions in their career.

Programme Intended
Learning Outcomes
With the global trend towards the adoption of the outcomes based
approach to education, City University embarked on the Outcomes-based
Teaching and Learning (OBTL) project in 2005 to signify its determination
to continue to enhance the education experience for its students.
All taught postgraduate programmes and courses of EE have adopted
this outcomes based approach since 2009, with some of them in pilot
runs in earlier years. Sets of intended learning outcomes on both
course level and programme level have been developed. Course Intended
Learning Outcomes (CILOs) of individual courses and their constructive
alignment with programme outcomes can be found in respective course
syllabuses while Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs) are
listed below for students' reference:

What will you be studying?
MSEIE with BM: Students must complete
a total of 36 CUs of which at least 12
CUs must be Business Management (BM) elective courses (denoted by
sign # on the list below). A minimum of 24 CUs must be Technical
elective courses where at least 6 CUs must be information engineering
related courses (denoted by an asterisk * on the
list below). In addition, at least 12 CUs should be Level 6 courses.
MSEIE: Students must complete
a total of 30 CUs for the award. A minimum
of 24 CUs must be Technical elective courses where at least 6 CUs
must be information engineering related courses. In addition, at
least 12 CUs should be Level 6 courses.
PGCs: Students are required to complete a
total of 12
CUs of EE elective courses whereby at least 9 CUs must be
selected from the relevant topics listed below. No more than 6 CUs
can be earned from Level-5 courses. Students may apply to transfer
to the MSEIE programme, with credit transfer, after satisfactory
completion of at least 6 CUs required in the PGC programme. Certificate courses: Students are required
to take 3 CUs of any level 5 or level 6
EE electives listed below. Students with a minimum attendance of
75% and a Grade Point of 2.0 will be issued a certification of Completion.
Students with a minimum attendance of 75%, but not taking any assessment
or with a Grade Point of less than 2.0, will be issued a Certificate
of Attendance.
Notes:
Technical elective courses consist of all EE and CS elective courses.

Reimbursable Courses under Continuing Education Fund.

The CEF support is applicable to students in the self-financing mode only. The following courses have been included in the reimbursable course list of the Continuing Education Fund (CEF). Successful applicants can apply for reimbursement of up to 80% of the course fee, subject to a maximum ceiling of 4 claims and a maximum limit of HK$10,000 within four years after the application is approved. Each claim can contain more than one course.

a copy of your HKID card, to the CEF office before the course

| Reimbursement Procedures |

To be able to obtain reimbursement from the CEF
Office, you MUST satisfy ALL of the following completion requirements:
- A minimum attendance rate of 75% (Students should sign on
the attendance record during class)
- At least 50% passing mark for the final course assessment
- A receipt showing that you have settled the tuition fee before
the due date

The EE General Office will send instructions for lodging claims
to students via email in week 12.
- Please complete the Reimbursement Claim Form provided
by the CEF office in the approval-in-principle letter.
- Then drop the Reimbursement Form together with
a self-addressed stamped envelope
into the Collection Box at the EE General Office or send
it by post to Ms Susana Tsui,

for Semester A; 8 June 2012 for Semester B) .

Eligible claimants will receive the verified Form together
with a Letter of Completion within 2 weeks after the release of
examination results. Unsuccessful claimants will also be notified
by post.

Entrance Scholarship for Full-time Overseas Students (2011 intake only)
Full-time overseas students are eligible to apply for the Entrance Scholarship for MSEIE programme. There shall be one award for full-time overseas students admitted to MScEIE in 2011 intake, the value of which is HK$6,000 each. The Scholarship shall be granted to those who have achieved the best academic standing among scholarship applicants of 2011 intake.
ESEO Entrance Scholarship for Students Nominated by ESEO Angers France (2011 – 2013 intake only)
ESEO Entrance Scholarship is established for the full-time students who are nominated by ESEO, Angers, France (hereafter ESEO) for admission to MScEIE or MScMIT programme for 2011, 2012 and 2013 intake. One Scholarship in the amount of HK$8,000 shall be granted each intake year to the one who have achieved the best academic standing among nominees from ESEO of the particular intake year.
Internship
There may be internship or placement opportunities offered to full-time overseas students for gaining experience related to the technical electives under the MSc programme, after their completion of the MSc programme in May each year. The internship or placement that have been successfully offered in recent years are for a period of 3 to 6 months at electronic companies or leading research establishments, located in Hong Kong, the US, Europe and Singapore. Examples of Internship in Summer 2011 are Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), University of Maryland (USA) and University of Montepillier 2 (France).
How do you get in?
- A degree of one of the universities in Hong Kong or an overseas
institution recognized for this purpose by the University; OR
- An equivalent qualification, or provided evidence of academic
and professional attainment acceptable for this purpose by the
university.
