HONG KONG CHAPTER OF SIGNAL PROCESSING
|
Brief History and Introduction
The IEEE Hong Kong Chapter of Signal Processing was founded in 1992.
During the last 18 years, the HK Chapter of Signal Processing has been
actively participating in different academic activities and contributed
to the development of the signal processing industry in Hong Kong. More
than 200 seminars, technical workshops and tutorials on various
advanced topics in signal processing were organised by the Chapter,
which attracted a great number of participants from both the academic
and industrial sectors. Among these events, the following events are
worth mentioning:
- The 1994 International
Symposium on Speech, Image Processing and Neutral Networks,
which was held between April 14-16, 1994 at the Hong Kong Convention
and Exhibition Centre, was one of the most important events organized
by the Chapter. The Symposium was co-sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and
was organized in co-operation with HKIE Electronics Division and IEE Hong Kong Centre. In
that three-day's event, a large number of papers, which revealed the
state-of-the-art of the fields of Speech Processing, Image Processing
and Neural Networks, were presented in five parallel sessions by
scholars from over 22 countries in the world. More than 300 attendees
participated in the Symposium.
- The 2000 International
Workshop on Multimedia Data Storage, Retrieval, Integration and
Applications, which was held between January 13-15, 2000 at the
Hong Kong Polytechnic University. More than 100 experts and scholars in
the areas of multimedia attended that event.
- The 2003 IEEE International Conference Acoustics, Speech and
Signal Processing (ICASSP) in Hong Kong. The ICASSP is the most
important annual event of the signal processing discipline in the
world. Although the event was cancelled due to the SARS outbreak
in Asia, the IEEE Signal Processing Society were still impressed by our
preparation work as well as the way we handled the cancellation.
- The 2004 International
Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing (ISCSLP), which
was held between December 15-18 in Hong Kong. The Chinese University of
Hong Kong had kindly provided the venue. It was the first time that the
event asked for full-paper submission and it was generally agreed that
the quality of accepted papers were high.
- The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP2010),
which was held between September 26-29 in Hong Kong. It is the most
important annual event of the image and video processing discipline in the
world. The conferecne received 2545 properly completed paper submissions
from authors of 44 countries.
We are going to continue the ICIP legacy and reputation for technical
excellence. The resulting program consists of many familiar topics plus a
few that are intended to guide the Society into new and emerging areas.
<>><>Looking forward to the future, the IEEE Hong Kong Chapter of
Signal Processing will take part more actively in international events
related to signal processing. We will also continue to be involved in
different academic activities and actively support the rapid evolution
of the signal processing industries in Hong Kong, as well as in China. >
