Dr. Yeung was born in Hong Kong. He received his B.Sc. degree in electronic and electrical engineering from Portsmouth University in 1978, and his Ph.D degree in control engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology and Medicine in 1990. From 1978 to 1979, he was a Medical Physicist in the ENT Centre, North Riding Infirmary, where he was also appointed as the Honorary Research Associate with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. From 1979 to 1986, he worked for the Industrial Automation Group, Department of Computing and Control, Imperial College as a Research Engineer. He switched departments in 1986 and worked for the Industrial System Group, Centre for Process Systems Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering. He was later promoted to Senior Research Engineer and then Research Fellow. He joined the department of electronic engineering, the City University of Hong Kong as a Senior Lecturer in 1992. At present, he is an Associate Professor and Director of the Automatic Control and Power Electronics Laboratory.

His current research interests are in developing robust multivariable control methods, large scale systems, adaptive control systems, and autonomous guidance vehicles. He had published over 15 technical papers in journals and conference proceedings, and one monograph. He was awarded the IEE Heaviside Prize for his paper in 1983.
