Aims and Objectives

The Minor in Networking Engineering aims to provide students with basic theoretical and practical skills necessary in computer networking and Internet disciplines. It is concerned with the design, implementation and administration of computer network infrastructures and includes an examination of the methods, techniques, tools and technologies used to develop such infrastructures. After completing the Minor in Networking Engineering, a student should be able to:

    1. Understand the fundamentals of computer network and Internet technologies
    2. Install, design and maintain complex routed WAN and switched LAN networks.
    3. Know some of the current trends and issues of networking

Requirements for the award

A student has to obtain at least 16 credits from computer networks related courses as shown in the following tables. Students can only have a maximum of 6 credit units overlapping with their major programmes. Students who have completed and passed the courses prescribed with an average GPA of 1.7 or above can get the Minor in Networking Engineering award.

    Obtain 7 credit units from the following two groups of Networking Engineering required courses:

Electives:

The Networking Engineering minor cannot be taken in conjunction with the major in BEng(Hon) in Information Engineering. A student who intends to take the minor should seek approval from his/her parent department and the department offering the minor.
