The world today is interconnected via a myriad of communication channels that may be either wired or wireless and with ever increasing amounts of data. Whether you are walking in the streets or travelling on the bus, nearly everyone can be seen checking emails, viewing the latest news, interconnecting socially or playing games. Everyone expects connectivity at any place and any time, but very few recognise the technology or the complexity involved in both the hardware and the software. The Department of Electrical Engineering offers majors that allow these technologies to function seamlessly across continents whether for work or for play. We offer three majors that have sufficient depth to prepare students to succeed in their technology driven career path and beyond, yet are broad enough to allow them to pursue other career paths. Most of the required courses in the first and second year are common to all three majors, covering mathematics, computing, circuits, information technology and computer programming. These courses set a solid foundation to prepare students for their third and final years. Strong links with industry have made our majors more applicable to Hong Kong.

JUPAS Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Applicants
JUPAS HKDSE students will apply for admission to the Department of Electrical Engineering (JS1205) of College of Engineering. Students will enter a major after one year of study. During their first year, students will study a broad range of Gateway Education (GE) and College/ Department core courses. At the end of the first year, the top 40% of students [based on (i) cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of Semester B; (ii) no failed grades in any courses in Semesters A and B; and (iii) completion of at least 30 credit units in Semesters A and B, including the number of credit units earned from College Requirements, College Specified GE courses and Department-Specified courses] will have free choice of majors offered by the Department. The other 60% of students will be allocated a major of their choice, subject to availability of places and the selection criteria set by the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Non-JUPAS Direct Applicants
Applicants holding an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or a General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCEAL),or a partially completed sub-degree qualification (Associate Degree or Higher Diploma) will be considered for direct admission to the Department of Electrical Engineering for first-year studies.
Applicants holding an Associate Degree (AD) / Higher Diploma (HD) qualification or a partially completed Bachelor's Degree qualification may apply for admission to a major programme offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering with Advanced Standing I/II.
Applicants who obtained their entrance qualifications in a language other than English will need an acceptable result in an approved English qualification. Click here for details.
The minimum graduation requirement for Advanced Standing I students is 96 credits (instead of the 120 credits in a standard four year curriculum) and 72 - 84** credits for Advanced Standing II students.
**students with relevant backgrounds will be waived to take EE2000 Logic Circuit Design, EE2004 Microcomputer Systems, EE2301 Basic Electronics Circuits, or EE2331 Data Structures and Algorithms (this course only applicable to CDE and INFE)
To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements.
