Lin Dai

I am a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, working on the mathematical foundations of communication and networking systems.

I was born in Wuhan, China. At the age of 15, I was admitted to the Special Class for Gifted Teenagers at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. I later pursued doctoral study at Tsinghua University and held postdoctoral positions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Delaware.

I joined City University of Hong Kong in 2007 and became a full professor in 2019. My research spans communication and networking theory, with particular interests in wireless communications, random access, performance analysis, and the optimal design of next-generation communication systems.

Across my research and supervision, I am drawn to questions that sit beneath particular technologies: how to model coupled systems cleanly, how to characterize their fundamental limits, and how mathematical theory can guide designs that are both effective and explainable.
