Title

Antenna-on-Display using Traveling-wave mode for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) for mobile platforms

Abstract

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems have been receiving significant attention due to enhanced spatial efficiency and functional versatility. Conventional microwave and mmWave antenna-in-package (AiP) for ISAC are separately realized for radar and communication, which requires vast number of antenna elements. However this becomes detrimental for application concerning mobile, portable ISAC devices.

This talk entails a new class of traveling-wave antennas which are integrated within the transparent region of Display panels. Denoted as Traveling-wave Antenna-on-Display (TWAoD), the proposed TWAoD utilizes grid-shaped with cross over patch structure, which enables EH1-mode radiation. The shared aperture concept for phase scanning (PS) mode and frequency scanning (FS) mode is presented for the first time for concurrent wireless sensing and communication scenarios.

Biography

Prof. Wonbin Hong is currently a Chaired Professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea. He is one of the first researchers to pioneer the concept and design of millimeter-wave antennas and RF front ends for cellular antenna-in-package (AiP) in the field of consumer electronics, including mobile terminals and access points for the much-anticipated ultrafast broadband wireless solutions, such as 5G/6G and SATCOM. Prof. Hong is also the inventor of Antenna-on-Display (AoD) Technology. He has authored and coauthored more than 250 peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, and two book chapters and one book. He is the inventor of more than 90 granted and 250 pending patents. Prof. Hong is a member of the Young Korea Academy of Science and Technology and recipient of the 29th Young Engineer Award from the National Academy of Korea. He is an IEEE Fellow.
