Introduction
The Department of Electrical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK EE) has launched the EE Annual Awards since 2022 to recognize the achievements of our alumni and individuals in their careers and/or for their service to the CityUHK EE community and society at large.
Objectives
- To celebrate the achievements of outstanding EE alumni with remarkable personal achievements and contributions to the society/ world.
- To foster staunch networking and loyalty to the Department.
- To bring back successful alumni to act as role models to current EE students.
- To recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to CityUHK EE.
Award Details
- The awards are nominated on annual basis.
- Three categories of awards are considered:
- Outstanding Alumni Awards;
- Outstanding Service Awards; and
- Young Alumni Awards.
- There will be up to 3 awards at most for each category each year.
- The awardee(s) need to receive the award in person at the award ceremony.
- Local expenses (e.g. accommodations) may be covered for overseas recipients.
- In addition to attending the award presentation, awardees may be invited to share with EE students their university life and learning experience in EE, as well as their personal achievements and life successes, so as to serve as role models and broaden the horizons of current EE students.
Selection Criteria
(1) Outstanding Alumni Awards:
- Demonstrating nominees’ successes and achievements in their careers, and their social responsibility and recognition obtained from the society.
- Showing their intention and plan on how their achievements can benefit CityUHK EE community.
(2) Outstanding Service Awards:
Demonstrating nominees’ achievements in serving the CityUHK EE community who is not necessarily an alumnus/alumna.
(3) Young Alumni Awards:
- Demonstrating nominees’ successes and achievements in their careers, and their social responsibility and recognition obtained from the society.
- Showing their intention and plan on how their achievements can benefit CityUHK EE community.
- Graduated from CityUHK EE in recent 10 years.
Nomination and Selection
- Nomination via online form is opened from September till the end of October.
- CityUHK EE Annual Awards Task Force will form an award selection committee.
- CityUHK EE Annual Awards Task Force members cannot be nominated nor make nominations.
- Nominees will be interviewed (online or face-to-face) by the Award Selection Panel.
- There is no minimum number of awardees each year.
- The selection of awardees will be arranged in the following January.
Rules
- No self-nomination is allowed. Nominations are required to be submitted by nominators.
- The nominator must provide a 200-word description of the nominee’s achievements with an updated CV of the nominee
- The nominator must clearly state affiliation with CityUHK EE
- Each nominee can only be awarded once in each award category; unsuccessful nominees can be re-nominated in subsequent years.
- Nominees must hold at least one diploma/ degree from CityUHK EE, except for Outstanding Service Awards.
- Nominators have to be CityUHK EE community members that include faculty, alumni, Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) members, etc.
Announcement of Results
Results announcement: Results will be communicated to awardees in March/April. Arrangements for the award ceremony and related registration will follow immediately.
Disqualification and disputes handling: The CityUHK EE Annual Awards Task Force reserves the sole discretion to make final decisions on any actions to be taken in response to complaints or irregularities identified during the nomination process, disputes regarding nominees’ credentials, or any other situations that may arise during the selection process.
Token of Appreciation
Certificate of Appreciation: Following the results announcement, a Certificate of Appreciation will be presented to awardees as a token of appreciation.
Notifications and ceremony schedule: Notifications to awardees will be sent in March/April . The annual award presentation ceremony will be held alongside and/or withinthe Commencement Ceremony in June of the same year.
Sharing with students: In addition to attending the award presentation, awardees may be invited to a department event to share their life experience and successful stories with fellow students.
Hall of Fame: Plaques bearing the awardees’ names will be permanently displayed in the department.
Video documentary: A video documentary (after selections are finalized) may be produced to showcase the successful stories of each awardee.
Online feature page: An introductory webpage featuring the successful stories of all awardees may be launched on the EE website after the ceremony.
