Prof Chaoliang Tan (Associate Professor) has been awarded GCIM Early Career Award 2026 presented by Materials Research Society of Korea at the 4th Global Conference of Innovation Materials (GCIM), in recognition of his exceptional research making a significant impact and advancement in the field of materials research.

GCIM serves as an international platform for showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering global collaboration in materials science and technology. This year, it features 16 symposia spanning a wide range of topics, including advanced electronics and semiconductors, energy materials and conversion technologies, biomedical and biointegrated materials, computational and structural materials, and materials for environmental sustainability.

Prof Ray Cheung Winning CENG Outstanding Teaching Awards 2025-26

Prof Ray Cheung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning), Director of the Institute of Future Learning, and Professor of EE, has been awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award (OTA) 2025–26 by the College of Engineering (CENG), in recognition of his exceptional contributions to student learning and his dedication to promoting excellence in teaching.

Prof Cheung is deeply committed to fostering an innovative, interactive, and student-centered learning environment. By integrating team-based learning with digital and collaborative approaches, he empowers students to take an active role in their own learning journey. This marks the second time Prof Cheung has received this prestigious award, a testament to his sustained excellence in teaching.

Since its establishment in 2019/20, the CENG OTA has been awarded to only a select number of faculty members, with five recipients from EE to date. This recognition highlights the strong commitment within our Department to teaching excellence. We will continue to strive for further achievements in both teaching and research in the years ahead.

Prof Din-ping Tsai Winning 2026 Top Ten Advances in Metamaterials in China (Basic Research)

Prof Din-ping Tsai (Chair Professor of EE), in collaboration with Prof. Shengxian Shi from the Shanghai Jiaotong University, has been awarded the 2026 Top Ten Advances in Metamaterials in China (Basic Research) for their recent work published in Nature Communications (Link: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-65171-7) and titled “Dispersive Meta-lens Thermometry for High-temperature Measurements”.

The award was presented at the 5th China Metamaterials Conference (CMMC 2026). The conference is dedicated to advancing theoretical research, design and fabrication, and device applications of metamaterials in China. It also aims to strengthen academic exchange, technical communication, and application promotion between academia and industry, thereby fostering knowledge innovation, technological innovation, and application development in the field of metamaterials.

Prof Derrick Jiang (Associate Professor), Dr Ben Zhang (Postdoc), Dr Zhou Jiayu (Postdoc), Mr Zhu Zhaozheng (PhD student), and scholars from Hefei University of Technology, Nanjing Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University, and Southeast University has won the Best Paper Award at the 2026 IEEE 9th International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC 2026). The winning paper is titled “A Node-Level Pulse Density Modulation-Based Control for Wireless Power Transfer in Networked AUV Energy Supply Systems”.

CIEEC provides a technical exchange platform for the academic and engineering communities in the field of electricity and energy. The Best Paper Award is presented to papers demonstrating outstanding originality, technical contribution, and potential impact in the field.

Prof Arindam Basu (Professor of EE) has been elected the Fellow of the International Academy of Artificial Intelligence Sciences (AAIS) 2026, a global recognition of his significant contributions in AI-related fields.

AAIS aims to build a broad AI industry to promote the development and application of AI in different fields of science and technology. AAIS gathers top scientists in different disciplines that integrate with AI, AI-focused institutions, and entrepreneurs applying AI to drive innovation, development and application of AI.
