Overview

Established on a foundation rooted in the CityUHK Electrical Engineering (EE) Joint Lab scheme initiated in 2019, the CityUHK EE Enterprise Innovation Hub embodies a progressive platform designed to bridge academic research and industrial application effectively. The Joint Lab scheme has historically involved over 52 corporate members who have collaboratively contributed to the development of physical Enterprise Labs housed within the ICP Building. Building upon this framework, the Enterprise Innovation Hub is envisioned as a comprehensive ecosystem supporting more than 20 small enterprise labs, each created to facilitate specialized research collaboration among faculty members, postgraduate students, and industrial partners.

Each Enterprise Lab spans approximately 500 square feet and is capable of accommodating between 3 to 8 researchers. This scale ensures a conducive environment for focused, intensive research activities that align with the specific interests of our enterprise collaborators. A minimum annual donation of HKD 1 million per lab secures operational funds, primarily supporting four self-financing PhD postgraduate students under faculty supervision. This financial commitment is designed to foster sustainable growth and continual innovation within each lab.

The Innovation Hub prioritizes symbiotic relationships where enterprise donors actively contribute insights, market demands, resources, and intellectual property (IP) backgrounds essential for advancing research projects. Beyond conventional research, donors are offered opportunities to engage in contract research, joint projects, ITF (Innovation and Technology Fund) applications, and IP licensing, facilitating commercialization and technology transfer. The ultimate ambition of the Hub is to accelerate university-enterprise collaboration, promote adoption of world-class research innovations, and catalyze the commercialization of research outcomes, thereby reinforcing CityUHK’s position as a leader in fostering industry-academic partnerships. The official launch ceremony was conducted on 2nd July 2026, marking a significant milestone toward realizing this vision.
