EE Quiz Competition 2019
EE Quiz Competition 2019 (EE常識問答比賽), was successfully held on 22nd February 2019 at the EE Multidisciplinary Projects Laboratory, where 14 teams of EE undergraduate students competed with each other intensely by pressing the buzzer, answering the questions, and flipping up and down their score cards placed next to them.
Contestants and audience learned lots of common technology knowledge throughout the competition. It was an afternoon full of claps, cheers as well as a strong smell of nervousness mixed with excitement. The winners fully demonstrated their quick wit and strong determination. If you want to experience what it is like, you must join us the next year when this EE Quiz Competition is held again.

Postgraduate Soft Skills Development Series in 2018/19
There were three soft skills development workshops organized in the academic year 2018/19 for postgraduate students on topics related to academic writing, paper publishing and conference preparation and presentation.
The iconic speakers had attracted overwhelming responses from the participants.

Staff and Postgraduate Students Get-to-gather – Hiking and Dinner
It was such a wonderful get-together that 40 some EE staff and postgraduate students had enjoyed a hiking at Po Toi Island (South Pole of Hong Kong) on 16 March 2019.
It took about three hours for the hike and we were fascinated with the spectacular sea view and the stunning natural environment. The trip ended with a hot pot dinner in a Chinese restaurant in Mongkok. We took a lot of photos and everyone has had a lot of fun on that day. Connection between students and staff were developed and we look forwarding to having more research collaborations in new or interdisciplinary directions based on this foundation.

Research Symposium for Postgraduate Students 2019
Around 150 EE postgraduate students, faculty members and research staff got together at the Research Symposium held on 26 February 2019.
This year, a total of 58 posters were submitted and presented, and eight were selected to receive the Best Presenter Awards according to topical track. Participants enjoyed the interactions with peers and faculty members and the day rounded off with invaluable exchanges and conversations.

Career Talk to EE Graduate-to-be
Delegates from nine renowned companies, namely ASM Pacific Technology, Automated Systems Holding Limited, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, GP Electronics (HK) Limited, HKT Limited, Jardine OneSolution (HK) Limited, Macroview Telecom Limited, PCCW Solutions Limited and Siemens Limited, were invited to deliver career talks to our Year-3 and final year students, giving them a clear picture of the career prospect and development in the respective companies and in the industry. Students were excited by the job opportunities and the challenges ahead.

Dr Corrigan, Senior Education Development Officer of the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education (EDGE) shared topic on “Lecturing Made Easy as P.I.E”
Dr Corrigan, Senior Education Development Officer of the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education (EDGE), was invited to speak on the topic “Lecturing Made Easy as P.I.E.” on 31st January 2019
Dr Corrigan has been teaching at CityU since 1994 and works largely on faculty development at CityU.

Department Academic Advisor Visit
EE’s Departmental Academic Advisors (DAA) Prof Hugh Griffiths from University College London and Prof Vincent W S Chan from Massachusetts Institute of Technology visited EE during 28-30 January 2019 for an academic excellence review exercise.
The 3-day program was so packed but remarkably meaningful – the DAAs met with different parties that included EE management team, teaching and research team, new hires, students of all levels; and visited department’s state-of-the-art facilities in the lab area; for coming up with a wrap-up that concluded the visit with commendations of the department’s efforts, recommendations for department to sustain our leadership in the field, and constructive exchanges of good practices between different universities.

EE Soft Skills Series I – How Engineers Could Shape the Future?
Soft skills is considered much more important than ever in the workplace, so EE Department is going to organize a series of Soft Skills Workshop in Semester B 2018/19.
To begin, Mr Ian Huang, Founder and CEO of Digital Transaction Limited, was invited to share with us what soft skills really mean to professionals in the real-world workplace in his talk titled “How Engineers Could Shape The Future”.

Award Ceremony of "What is EE?" Microfilm Competition 2018
“What is EE?” Microfilm Competition 2018 was held among Form 4 or above full-time secondary school students/ alumni or students of City University of Hong Kong/Community College of City University of any discipline with an aim to enhance the public’s awareness and understanding of electronic engineering through the production of microfilm.
The award ceremony was held on 9 January 2019 to celebrate among winners, secondary school teachers and EE professors.

Bridging EE Students with Friends from Industry
Close to 79 CEOs, directors, vice presidents, division heads, managers and officers of 56 companies participated in two industrial gatherings with EE programme management team and faculty members held on 28th December 2018 and 4th January 2019.
The gatherings were very constructive in a way that good exchanges on university-industry collaborative proposals were carried out for a number of career-related and student projects namely Design Projects, Industrial Placement Scheme, Final Year Projects, 1-year Internship Program and Career Coaching.
More events fostering university-industry collaboration will be organized to bridge our students with industry friends and their potential future employers !
