EE celebrated its 30th anniversary with a grand Gala Dinner on the evening of March 14, 2025, at The Langham, Hong Kong. Approximately 300 guests, including faculty, EE staff, alumni, donors, industry partners, research students, and their families, gathered to commemorate three decades of outstanding achievements in education, research, and innovation. The event, themed “Honoring the Past, Innovating the Future,” provided an opportunity for department to appreciate and reunite with different stakeholders, rekindling existing relationships and fostering new connections.

The evening commenced with a welcome reception, followed by an opening address from Professor Zhaoyang DONG, Head of the EE Department; a congratulatory video from President Professor Freddy BOEY; and remarks from Professor Jian LU, Dean of College of Engineering. Other programmes excited the night were a live talk show on EE journey showcasing 30 years of milestones, award ceremony to our donors supporting department development throughout the years, Kahoot game where participants competed for best knowledge about the department history, and singing competition and performances.

The celebration concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks from Department Head, leaving guests with a renewed sense of pride and anticipation for the future of EE.

CityUHK representatives attending the dinner included Professor CHAN Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement); Professor CHENG Shuk Han, Associate Vice President (Research); Professor WONG Hang, Associate Vice-President (Community Engagement); and Professor Jian LU, Dean of the College of Engineering.

Professor ZY DONG, Head of the EE Department delivered an opening address.

President Prof Freddy BOEY extended his warmest regards via video, praising the EE Department for illuminating the path to success over the decades with its highly-ranked faculty and world-class research.

The evening continued with a joyful toasting ceremony, where representatives from CityUHK, donors and industry leaders, joined in to share good fortune with all attendees.

Professor Zhaoyang DONG, Head of the EE Department presented souvenirs to all donors.

Approximately 300 guests involving CityUHK senior management, industry leaders and friends, donors, alumni, faculty, staff and invited students celebrated together CityUHK’s and EE’s 30th anniversary at the gala dinner.

The gala dinner was lively filled with laughter and a vibrant atmosphere, creating a truly memorable night.
