Dr Chaoliang Tan has been awarded the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macao) [國家自然科學基金優秀青年科學基金項目（港澳）] 2021 for his project “Two-Dimensional Nanomaterials and Devices”. He will receive a funding of RMB1.6 million to support his research project in Hong Kong to a maximum period of three years.
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund is one of the most prestigious honors for young scientists in China. The fund is offered exclusively for young scientists from eight universities of the two cities — six from Hong Kong and two from Macao. It is highly competitive, only 25 projects are funded for Hong Kong and Macau. It supports young scientists (male below 38 and female below 40 years old) with outstanding basic research achievements to pursue innovative research in the areas of their own choice.
