Surprising that so many folks out there are interested in gambling!

If you want a formula that maximizes your luck next time you visit a casino, see my old Google blog Optimize your luck in Macau: A practical strategy to gaming first.  [WARNING: Do not get addicted to gambling! 警告:請勿沈迷賭博!]

Then, something more academic …  We started a serious hobby research some years ago trying to predict the outcomes of roulette games. We built a math model for the dynamics of the spinning ball and the rotating disk, that provided a fairly accurate prediction of where the ball would hit one of the obstructors at the rim of the roulette. A statistical approach then follows to predict where the ball would land eventually. Video capturing technique was used in students’ experiments to verify predictions. The paper was published in Chaos (September 2012), and when the paper was in the open-domain review pipeline, it had already attracted quite a bit of news coverage. It also became the Number 1 Most Read Article in 2012 for the journal.

This paper has an Altmetric Attention Score of 66, which is among the top 5% of all research outputs rated.
