Winning Runner-up Team in PwC's HackaDay 2018

Mr Hui Kam Leung (INFE, Yr-3) together with students from Computer Science and Information Systems, were the Runners-up in PwC's HackaDay 2018. Dr Ray Cheung has served as the mentor to help interested students to form the team for joining the competition.

It’s the second year for PwC to organize such a competition where undergraduate students from local universities competed in a 6-hour hacking session on skills and knowledge related to IoT, web, network and binary. It aims to increase the general awareness of the importance of cybersecurity amongst Hong Kong’s youth, who will eventually become the pillars of our society. HackaDay also serves as a platform to raise the competency level of new talents to better prepare them for a meaningful career in cybersecurity.

Winning Second Prize in IEEE EMBS Hong Kong-Macau Joint Chapter Student Paper Competition 2018

PhD student, Mr Nabeel SIDDIQUI, has won the Second Prize in the IEEE EMBS Hong Kong-Macau Joint Chapter Student Paper Competition 2018. The winning paper, supervised by Dr Rosa Chan, is titled "Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Multi-band Acoustic Sensors at Wrist".

IEEE EMBS Hong Kong-Macau Joint Chapter Student Paper Competition is held annually which aims to encourage postgraduate and undergraduate students from all tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhongshan to present their project works in biomedical engineering related topics.

PhD student, Mr Zhou Xinyu, has won the Second Place in the 14th High Efficiency Power Amplifier Student Design Competition. The winning project supervised by Dr W S Chan is called "Broadband High Efficiency Post-matching Doherty Power Amplifier Based on Mixed-Topology".

The competition was held at the IEEE MTTS 2018 International Microwave Symposium. Competitors were required to design a Microwave Power Amplifier (PA) with both high efficiency and linearity. Mr Zhou received an award from the same competition last year.

Winning 1st Runner-up in JOS Innovation Awards 2017-18

Miss Ng Chak Lam (INFE, Yr-3), who teamed up with students from College of Business, The University of Hong Kong and The University of Science and Technology, has won the 1st Runner-up in JOS Innovation Awards 2017-18. Their winning project is called “Algotritionist”.

The theme of the competition this year is “Happy Ageing – Innovation Healthcare Solution”. There were 48 teams from different tertiary institutions joined and 9 were shortlisted to the final round. “Algotritionist” is a system with algorithms that will suggest possible meals combinations suitable for the elderly, and keep track of the elderly’s consumption of different food elements. The data collected will be useful for doctors to provide more precise treatment and nutrition plan.

JOS Innovation Awards have been established since 2015. It aims to inspire and nurture students in Hong Kong for their smart ideas and innovative thinking in improving industry performance.

Winning 2nd Runner-up in Bank of China HK FinTech Hackathon

Mr RAJNIKANTH Ajay (BDEE, Yr-1) who teamed up with students from Computer Science and Physics, has won the 2nd Runner-up in Bank of China HK FinTech Hackathon. All the students are members of CityU Apps Lab. The winning project, supervised by Dr Ray Cheung, is called “I"PocketIn - AI Smart Investment”. Apart from a cash prize of HK$30,000, the team is entitled to a fast-track interview opportunity to Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) or Cyberport Incubation Programme.
