Winning Most Innovative Engineering
Winning Most Innovative Engineering Award at Singapore AUV Competition 2019

The CityU Underwater Robotics Team has won the Most Innovative Engineering Award at Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Competition 2019. The winning team, comprising 3 EE students and 6 students from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Department of Marketing, is supervised by Dr Ray Cheung (Associate Professor, EE), Dr Angus Wu (Assistant Professor, EE), Dr Pakpong Chirarattananon (Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering) and Dr Yajing Shen (Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering).

73 teams from 16 countries joined the competition this year. Three teams are from Hong Kong in which two are CityU teams. The CityU team “Pioneer” entered the final round and won the Most Innovative Engineering Award. You may check here for more information about the competition.

Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 26th ICSE 2018
Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 26th International Conference on Systems Engineering 2018

Dr Ray Cheung, Associate Professor and his PhD student, Mr Abdurrashid Ibrahim SANKA, have won the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 26th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng 2018). The winning paper is titled “Efficient High Performance FPGA based NoSQL Caching System for Blockchain Scalability and Throughput Improvement”.

The Conference was jointly organized on a rotational basis among three institutions, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA, Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, and Coventry University, UK, which provided a high-level forum for scholars, researchers and engineers from all over the world to share their views, research achievements, explore the hot issues and exchange the new experiences and technologies in the fields of Systems Engineering.

Winning Two Prizes in the Second Computational Finance Competition

Mr Wong Chi Fai (INFE Final Year Student) supervised by Mr Van Ting (Instructor of EE) has won two prizes in the Second Computational Finance Competition.

  • Best Overall Return - 1st Runner-up

Organized by IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter ("IEEE (HK) CI Chapter") and Global eSolutions (HK) Limited ("GES"), the competition aims to promote the use of Computational Intelligence in the area of finance and to develop a new generation of Algo Trading talents in Hong Kong.
