The project “Portable Disinfection Device for COVID-19 Using Far-UVC Light”, led by Prof K W Leung, aims to provide the first-ever portable device for COVID-19 disinfection by using far-UVC light which is well capable of destroying pathogens including coronavirus and is rather harmless to the human body comparing to traditional UV light as it will not penetrate deeply into the human skin and thus not damaging any living cells.
The other project “Precision Prediction Models for COVID-19” under investigation by Dr Katie Chan is for predicting infection, mortality, and investigation of the link between COVID-19 infection with other morbidities using immunity and metabolic biomarkers among individuals infected with COVID-19.
