The sessions successfully attracted over 160 student counts. By joining the sessions, students got more thorough understanding about the features and curriculums, learning opportunities, career prospects of graduates, comparison of majors, etc. of the four majors being presented by our Year 1 and Major Programme Leaders – Prof Ehsan Nekouei (Year 1), Prof L M Po (CDE), Prof Andy Chan (ELEL), Prof Andrew Leung (INFE), and Prof Arindam Basu (MEE).

Seminar Series I: How to Write a Strong CV and Application Letter with AI Tools
Date: 24 February 2026
Speaker: Ir Prof. Alan Lam, Adjunct Professor, EE; Founder, Sengital Limited
In the first seminar series, Prof. Lam shared practical strategies for crafting compelling CVs and application letters tailored to specific job opportunities, leveraging modern AI tools. He emphasised the importance of a well-structured CV and a persuasive application letter in effectively presenting one’s strengths to potential employers.
With extensive experience as a successful entrepreneur and a leader in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology sector, Prof. Lam offered students valuable insights into what employers look for in potential candidates.

Seminar Series II: Ace the Job Interview
Date: 6 March 2026
Speaker: Ms Pinky Chan, Career Advisor, Career and Leadership Centre (CLC), Student Development Services
The second seminar, co-hosted with CLC, focused on helping students navigate job interviews with confidence. Ms Chan covered essential topics such as creating a positive first impression, common interview questions, best practices for pre- and post-interview preparation, tips for virtual interviews, and overcoming psychological barriers. Students learned how to structure their responses using the S.T.A.R. framework (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and gained practical advice on body language, professional attire, and effective communication.

Seminar Series III: Student Readiness & Career Reality Check in the AI Era: Navigating the AI Era – From Classroom to Career
Date: 9 March 2026
Speaker: Mr Lewis Fung, Managing Director, SenseTime Hong Kong & Macau
The third seminar provided students with a forward-looking view on how artificial intelligence is transforming careers and industries. Mr Fung shared real-world insights on the swift shift from AI as a simple tool to multimodal systems combining language, vision, audio, and actions. He clarified why AI alters tasks rather than entire jobs, emphasising the increasing importance of human judgment, communication, and the ability to convert AI outputs into tangible deliverables.
Students gained a clear understanding of why employers now prioritize proof-of-skill—such as portfolios, projects, and AI-native workflow competence—over traditional credentials. Mr Fung’s experienced insights in AI strategy, cloud computing, and digital transformation inspired students to embrace innovation and prepare for the next wave of engineering careers.

The seminar series was well-received by students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from distinguished industry leaders and gain practical career skills. The Department extends its sincere thanks to Prof. Lam, Ms Chan and Mr Fung for their valuable contributions, and we wish all students aspiring to take an internship or soon to graduate from CityUHK could secure a role they genuinely desire and cultivate a fulfilling, long‑term professional career.
Before indicating choices of majors, it is a unique opportunity for year one students to learn more about the features, curriculums, learning opportunities, career paths of graduates, etc. of different majors. Apart from major talks, you can ask questions directly to the 4 major leaders. The event is highly recommended to all EE year one students.
