Dialogue with Parents 2020

Support to Year-1 students from various parties on adapting to the university life is very important, may they be academic advisors, student mentors, peers or family members. Dialogue with Parents hosted by Prof Henry Chung was held on 5 September 2020 over Zoom to let parents of Year-1 students know better about the university life, teaching and learning at EE Department and its support to students, as well as the career prospect. Two graduates, Mr Michael Leung (2014 ECE graduate) and Mr Ben Huang (2016 CE graduate) also joined on the day to share their learning experiences in EE and their career development to parents. We do hope that these information would facilitate parents to walk through the university journey with their children.

CityU EE Summer School 2020

On every Saturday between August 1st and August 22nd, three 6-hour online parallel classes were conducted. Three different kinds of STEM modules were designed to guide participants to go through an eye-opening learning journey through a series of lectures and hands-on activities on microprocessor-controlled systems, AI and Machine Learning, and cloud computing. They were conducted by Professor Henry Chung, Dr Ray Cheung, and Mr. Van Ting. This meaningful event successfully attracted 123 students from 29 secondary schools. All students found the programme useful, interactive, interesting, and enjoyable.

A closing ceremony was held on August 29th afternoon. Our Head of Department, Professor Stella Pang presented certificates to the winners of the competitions. There were also sharing of the contents of the modules by student facilitators; and winners and school principals shared their learning experience and feelings about the programme. Thanks to our sponsors Winstars Enterprise HK Limited and Hong Kong Productivity Council for their generous support.

This two-round competition involved three main topics which were Probability, Calculus (MA120X) and Linear Algebra (MA2001), and around 40 EE students participated in it.

In this competition, participants not only fully applied the knowledge they had learned in class, but also actively engaged themselves in it and had lots of fun. It is believed that the next competition would be even more exciting and challenging.
