EE Final Year Project Competition 2025

The Final Year Project (FYP) Competition was successfully held on 14 May 2025. This year, six projects were shortlisted to enter the Final in way of poster presentation.  All contestants were enthusiastic and professional in introducing their innovative and novel ideas in their project works. They also addressed all questions from the judges professionally.

The judging team for FYP competition this year was composed of our Adjunct Professor from industry and five faculty judges.

CityUHK EE Collaborates with Six Globally-renowned Enterprises to Establish the Eighth Joint Laboratory, Jointly Cultivating Global Innovative Technology Talents

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) - Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) established the CityUHK Electrical Joint Laboratory with six well-known technology enterprises, including Alta Sicuro, AusMed, Autotoll, GOOGOLTECH, LiPOWER and Locobike on May 8, 2025, to jointly promote scientific research and knowledge technology transfer, and cultivate global technology talents. Over 70 participants joined onsite and online for this event.

The CityUHK EE Joint Lab programme has been established since 2019, together with the newly joint partners in phase 8, the number of participating institutions in the programme has increased to 46. A series of cooperative and technical projects have been/will be launched with these partners.

CityUHK-EE marks three decades of leading-edge innovation

The Department of Electrical Engineering celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Technical Seminar on "Generative AI Technology and Applications",  a Research Student Poster Competition highlighted student research excellence, and a 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner honored the department’s achievements in education and innovation on 14 March 2025. EESC Tech Talk: Photonic Integrated Circuits for Future Optical and Wireless Links

The Electrical Engineering Student Chapter (EESC) hosted Prof. Cheng Wang, who shared his cutting-edge research on photonic integrated circuits. Students gained valuable insights into this groundbreaking field while networking with like-minded peers. The interactive session provided both inspiration and practical knowledge, highlighting how advanced research translates to real-world applications. Many attendees left motivated to explore more research opportunities across different fields of their academic journeys, with photonics being one exciting avenue among many.

Gifted Education Fund

This 7-month programme teaches high school students essential knowledge and skills related to AI, IoT, edge computing, and microelectronics technologies. It also seeks to empower them with coding, engineering, and mathematics skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. These soft and hands-on skills will enable them to develop applications that can solve current and future world problems.

Intake: 50 students (Secondary 1-5, HKAGE member)
Programme Delivery Period: May 2025 - Dec 2025

CityUHK-EE x MathWorks Joint Lab Event: AI for Signal Processing Applications Seminar

On 7 January 2025, around 30 participants joined the CityUHK-EE x MathWorks Joint Lab event titled "Artificial Intelligence for Signal Processing Applications Seminar” by Yueyi Xu and Nikita Pinto.

The seminar explored the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into various workflows, emphasizing data preparation, modeling, system design, and deployment. Attendees gained valuable insights into how MATLAB facilitates AI implementation through interactive apps that generate code. The speakers demonstrated how AI can enhance signal processing systems for a range of signals, including audio, biomedical, radar, and wireless. The event was a great success, offering participnts practical knowledge and techniques to leverage AI in their signal processing endeavors.

Lab Visit Summary: State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (SKLTMW)

Location: City University of Hong Kong

Around 15 EE students visited the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (SKLTMW) at City University of Hong Kong, led by Professor Gengbo Wu. They explored advanced THz imaging, spectroscopy systems, near-field scanners, and millimeter-wave communication devices for 5G/6G, non-destructive testing, biomedical imaging, and security scanning. The lab also showcased microelectronics and THz integrated circuit fabrication, highlighting its leadership in applied electromagnetics. This hands-on experience bridged theory and practice, deepening students' understanding of emerging technologies, sparking interest in THz research and telecommunications careers, and fostering connections with experts, inspiring future opportunities in these fields.
