CityUHK JUPAS Consultation Day will be held on 16 May 2026 (Saturday). The EE Department will offer a talk to introduce the learning exposure at EE and career opportunities in the field. Our faculty and students will also be around to offer advice or answer any questions you may have about studying at EE. CityU-EE Smartone Joint Lab Sky100 5G Lab Visit

CityU-EE Smartone Joint Lab Sky100 5G Lab Visit was held on 10 May 2022. 24 EE faculty members and postgraduates students visited the famous Sky100 at the tallest building in Hong Kong, International Commerce Centre (ICC), and visited the Smartone 5G Lab. During the visit, 4 research seminars were conducted, with an Introduction to Private 5G Network at the CityU EE x SmarTone Joint Lab presented by EdgeNectar. Finally, a fruitful discussion between CityU-EE and Smartone was carried out to explore the long-term partnership and potential research directions.

HKIAS Distinguished Lecture Series on Electronics and Photonics by 5 EE Faculty

The Distinguished Lecture Series on Electronics and Photonics organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Advanced Study (HKIAS) and delivered by five EE faculty, namely, Profs C H Chan, K M Luk, Stella Pang, Ding-ping Tsai and Michael Tse, were held from March to April 2022. It aims to showcase the top-notch research and innovative applications at various levels from electronic or photonic materials to devices and systems.

The five lectures cover the topics in Nanotechnology and Nano devices, Antenna Design, Photonics, Power Electronics and Systems, Terahertz and Millimeter Waves, and Wireless Communications. The event was run virtual which attracted scholars and students across the world to join.

EE Final Year Project Competition 2022

The Final Year Project (FYP) Competition was successfully held online on 20 April 2022 with some 70 audiences. A total of 32 projects entered the semi-final poster session of the competition. All semi-finalists were enthusiastic and professional in introducing their innovative and novel ideas in their project works and they also addressed the questions from the judges professionally. Six of them were immediately selected after the semi-final to compete in the final round held on the same day for Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit prizes. Three more students were selected as honorary mentions.

The judging team for final presentation was composed of three faculty members and three guests from the industry.

EE Major Allocation Information Sessions 2022

To facilitate EE Year 1 Students in choosing their majors (Computer and Data Engineering/Electronic and Electrical Engineering/Information Engineering) in the Major Allocation Exercise held in June 2022, three information major sessions were held on 28 March, 31 March and 4 April 2022.

The sessions successfully attracted 172 student counts. By joining the sessions, students got more thorough understanding about the features and curriculums, learning opportunities, career prospects of graduates, comparison of majors, etc. of the three majors being presented by our Year 1 and Major Programme Leaders – Dr Sammy Chan (Year 1), Dr Yanni Sun (CDE), Dr Andy Chan (ELEL), and Prof H C So (INFE).

CityU Undergraduate Open Day 2022

CityU Undergraduate Open Day 2022 was successfully held on 19 March 2022. The EE Department had three live online sessions throughout the day, including “Fun with Microcontrollers!” by Dr Andy Chan, “AIoT Show-and-tell” by Dr Ray Cheung and “Glass antennas for Wireless Communications!” by Prof K W Leung.

The sessions aroused the interests of secondary students in EE, and showed how our EE undergraduate programmes prepare students for the future.

Third EE Academic Staff Meeting in 2021/22

The third academic staff meeting among all EE faculty was held over Zoom on 11 March 2022. The Chairman presented updates on the development of teaching, research, and industrial collaborations of the Department in the first half of Semester B. Working, teaching and examination arrangement adjusting to COVID situation and the actions for confirmed COVID cases were also highlighted and discussed.

The Chairman registered a vote of thanks to all EE staff for their concerted and continuous effort on maintaining the teaching and research quality as well as the safety among the EE community under this special time.

Second Departmental Advisory Committee Meeting in 2021/22

The Second Departmental Advisory Committee Meeting for the academic year 2021/22 was held on 9 March 2022 over Zoom where all the members from the industry and the Department attended.

Thanks to the active discussion among members who are experienced professionals in the EE field, constructive advices and suggestions were collected for strengthening the publicity to and recruitment of high school students, enhancing the development of teaching and research in the Greater Bay Area and the overall strategic development of the Department.
