Miss Wong Man Chi (INFE, final year) who teamed up with student from Department of Management Sciences and graduate of Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, has been selected to join The Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2018 and awarded HK$100K seed fund to develop their FinTech start-up project “Global Payment Aggregator for Merchant”. The winning team is supervised by Dr Ray Cheung, Associate Professor of EE.
CUPP is a FinTech-focused entrepreneurship programme for local university students to unleash their potential, gain insights into the global market, and receive a unique chance to participate in an Entrepreneurship Boot Camp in the US and receive mentorship from industry elites. More about this meaningful programme can be found here.
Cyberport has run such a programme since 2015 and it’s the fourth consecutive year that our student has been selected to join the programme and won the HK$100K seed fund. It’s so exciting that there are totally ten students representing five teams being awarded the CUPP seed fund to develop their FinTech start-up projects since 2015.
Three PhD students, Mr HUANG Weipei, Mr LYU Songyang and Mr XU Zhe, have won the Third Prize in the Huawei Cup - IC Competition for Postgraduate Students in China (首屆中國研究生創“芯”大賽) which is organized by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Centre (CDGDC, 中國教育部學位與研究生教育發展中心) and Children & Youth Science Centre (CYSC) of Association for Science and Technology (中國科協青少年科技中心). The winning project, supervised by Dr Ray Cheung, is called “High Performance Hardware Architecture for Singular Spectrum Analysis of Hankel Tensors”.
There were 254 teams submitted applications and 148 teams were selected to join the final round. Our team is the only team from Hong Kong joined the competition. Teams were invited to submit creative, innovative or entrepreneurial works related to the IC industry, including but not limited to IC design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, materials, equipment, MEMS and their applications. This competition offered a platform for postgraduate students to demonstrate their integrated circuit design ability. It also provided students with precious opportunities for knowledge exchange and exploration. Apart from the competition, talent training seminar, high-level forum on IC production, education and research, as well as enterprise exhibition and recruitment activities were arranged for participants to gain all-rounded exposure about IC. More information can be found at the new reports: sina.com.cn, people.cn and iQIYI.
