EE 30th Anniversary Series – Technical Seminar 2025: Generative AI Technology and its Applications

As part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration Series for the Department of Electrical Engineering, a Technical Seminar exploring cutting-edge developments in AI technology was held on the morning of 14 March 2025. The event attracted different industry leaders, alumni, faculty and students, and was kick-started by the insightful opening remarks by Prof Kin Chiang, EE Associate Head (Research and Graduate Programs) about the GenAI technology, its revolution and impact. It then featured a keynote address on 'Technology Beyond GenAI' by Ir Professor Alan Lam, followed by an Industrial Leader Seminar where industry experts Dr Dorbin Ng from LSCM, Mr Ricky Chong from Ricoh HK Ltd., and Mr Ken Ching from Locobike discussed GenAI applications across various sectors.

Ir Professor Alan LAM 
Founder and Chairman, Sengital Group

  • Professor Lam's team has been evaluating the performance of Large Language Models since ChatGPT launched in December 2022. In the seminar, he demonstrated to audiences his innovative approach to stack-based AI agents. His proposed system, Poffices.ai, represents a significant advancement in AI technology - functioning as a taskbot rather than a chatbot, designed to complete tasks through simple instructions.

The event concluded with a panel discussion exploring some broader questions about GenAI technology implementation, ethical considerations, and future trends. It provided an opportunity to compare approaches across different industries and address some of the common challenges and opportunities that span sectors.
Thanks to the distinguished speakers for their valuable insights, leading to the privilege of audiences on learning about both the future beyond GenAI and the current applications of generative AI technologies across various industries. The conversations started in the seminar are vital as we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technologies.
