Second Departmental Advisory Committee Meeting in 2020/21
There were 11 external members who are experienced professionals in the EE field attended the Departmental Advisory Committee Meeting held on 24 March 2021.
Departmental Advisor Committee members normally meet once per semester to discuss curriculum and training enhancement, fostering closer tie with the industry, and the publicity of EE field. Thanks for their genuine sharing and valuable advices, the Department has been steered to excel in its teaching and research in diversified ways.

EE Academic Staff Meeting
All EE faculty gathered on 19 March 2021 for attending EE Academic Staff Meeting which is held once per semester for discussing the latest development on education and research of the Department.
This time, student recruitment and support, research updates and opportunities, industrial partnership, and strategic plan 2021-25 were highlighted and discussed.

Electrical Engineering Honor Society (EEHS) Alumni Sharing Sessions in March 2021
EEHS organized two alumni sharing sessions for EE students on 12 and 19 March 2021. It aims to enhance students’ understanding on career prospects as well as make better future plans.
Both speakers Mr. SONG Xiangchen, who will start as a PhD student in Carnegie Mellon University and Miss LI Yuqi, who is currently studying at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a PhD student are 2017 ECE graduates, they generously shared their experience in applying graduate studies, undergraduate research and tips about how to find good research topics. They also talked about how to improve communication skills, problem solving skills and the ways to find initiatives. The talks ended with interactive and informative Q&A among participants.

EE Fun Lab Workshop
To help students to get familiar with EE’s laboratories and equipment, a laboratory visit tour named “EE Fun Lab Workshop” was held. It was organized by EE Student Chapter (EESC) and took place at CityU Apps Lab in Ngau Tau Kok on 13 March 2021.
During the lab tour, students actively participated and learned to produce a diving robot in a workshop. All participants felt fruitful and learned a lot through this event.

Prize Presentation for EE Programming Contest
To promote algorithmic thinking and competitive programming among the EE community, an online programming contest was held in Semester A 2020/21 for all EE undergraduate students.
Winners may be further selected to join the ACM-HK Programming Contest 2021. Congratulations to the following winners! Prizes were presented to them by Dr Albert Sung and Mr Van Ting, Departmental Coordinator of ACM-ICPC Competition, on 12 March 2021.

Information Session by KTO and RO
Information Session hosted by Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) and Research Grants and Contracts Office (RO) of City University of Hong Kong was held on 12 March 2021.
The KTO session discussed collaborations with industry and entrepreneurial related activities, while the RO one highlighted the updates of research grants and service support of RO. The informative sharing facilitated faculty to better prepare and plan for their research and knowledge transfer activities.

EE High School Principal Nomination Scheme (PNS) 2020 Closing Ceremony cum EE Gifted Education Fund Project Launching Ceremony 2021
To celebrate students’ achievements in the Principal Nomination Scheme 2020, a closing ceremony for PNS2020 was organized on March 12, 2020, together with the grand launching ceremony for the AIoT Coding and Engineering Skills Education Programme 2021. During the ceremony, certificate of participation were presented and our new programme, the “AIoT Coding and Engineering Skills Education Programme” funded by the Gifted Education Fund (GEF) was introduced. This event was organized in mixed mode with around 100 participants joined onsite and via zoom, including high school principals, teachers, and students.
The AIoT Coding and Engineering Skills Education Programme aims to develop students’ engineering skills to develop Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) devices and inspire students about the role of System on Chips (SoC) and Integrated Circuit (IC) in the AI domain, the programme is now opened for application for Form 4 and Form 5 gifted students in Hong Kong until April 15, 2021. Seats are limited for this programme.

DSE SOS (Sharing of Strategy) Session
To help DSE examinees prepare effectively for the DSE and perform to the best of their abilities, “DSE SOS (Sharing of Strategy) Session” was held on 9 March 2021 over Zoom.
Current EE students were there to cheer examinees up by sharing their thoughts the exam flow, describe their personal experiences and offer practical advices regarding preparation strategies for the DSE. Wishing all a big success in the coming DSE!

EE Honor Society Member Recruitment 2021
EE Honor Society (EEHS) has carried out its member recruitment in March, all students with good academic performance (CGPA > 3.5) are welcome to apply. In this round of recruitment, we are glad to have additional 11 EEHS members. The next round of recruitment will be held in coming September.
