ELEL Student Winning IET Prize 2022

Mr GE Tong (ELEL, Year 2) has recently won the IET Prize 2022, which was organized by The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The IET Prizes were set up to recognize outstanding students who have achieved academic excellence and have been active in extra-curricular activities, engineering institutions, and community services. Being the top student in his major (CGPA 4.09 and being placed on Dean’s List for 2 consecutive semesters) and actively participating in numerous co-/ extra-curricular activities or community services organized by the Department or the University, Mr Ge has proved himself an outstanding and all-rounded student for competing for the prizes.

Two Teams Winning Three Prizes in the SMART@GWIN E&M IoT Application Challenge 2022

Two teams of EE students have won a total of three prizes in the SMART@GWIN E&M IoT Application Challenge 2022 which was organized by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

Project: A LoRaWAN-based Smart Water Leakage Detection System for Civil Housing

The Challenge aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the Government Wide IoT Network (GWIN). For tertiary category, university students were asked to pitch pragmatic smart IoT applications proposals that can be implemented on the GWIN to benefit the Hong Kong society.

PhD Student Winning Student Prize at Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference 2022

Mr Deng Feiyang (PhD student) supervised by Prof K M Luk has won the Student Prize at Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC) 2022. The winning paper is titled “Low-Profile Wideband High-Gain Open Resonator Antenna Based on Multi-Resonant Modes Cavity and Metasurface”.

Over 100 students from various countries in the Asia Pacific Region joined the conference and 8 papers were selected as finalists. Outstanding student papers presented at APMC 2022 will be awarded the APMC 2022 Student Prize.

CENG-IET Young Professionals Exhibition Competition 2022 (UG)
1st Runner Up and Best Innovation Award in IET Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition 2022 (Undergraduate Section)

Mr Kwok Man Hin (Year 4, INFE) who teamed up with a student from the Department of Public International Affairs has been awarded the 1st Runner Up and Best Innovation Award in IET Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2022 – Undergraduate Section. The winning project, supervised by Dr W S Chan, is called "Starwheation".

YPEC, organized by Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is a dynamic platform for young professionals from different segments to exhibit their engineering and technology innovation. The theme this year is “Propagation” which aims at envisioning young professionals to propagate innovative ideas and act as influencers in the society.

Winning First Runner-Up in Hong Kong Electronics Project Competition 2022

A team of five EE students/graduates supervised by Dr K F Tsang has won the First Runner-Up in the Tertiary Education Category of the Hong Kong Electronics Project Competition 2022. 

  • Winning Project: An Optimized Radio Replication Combined Load Balancing Scheme for Network Server Cluster in Large-Scale LoRaWAN
  • Team members: Mr LEE Yo-Che (INFE), Mr LIU Yucheng (PhD), Mr WANG Hao (PhD), Miss WEI Yang (PhD) and Mr ZHANG Zhifu (INFE graduate 2022) 

Organized by the Electronics Division of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Hong Kong Electronics Project Competition (HKEPC) 2022 is held every year with the aim of promoting the advancement and exchange of information and creative ideas related to electronic engineering. The theme of HKEPC 2022 is “Advancing Innovation & Technology in New Normal Smart City”.

Winning Third Prize in the CCF TCARCH Customized Computing Challenge 2022

Mr CHAN Ho Chung (CDE, Year 4) and Mr MENG Xinmin (ECE, Year 4), under the supervision of Dr Ray Cheung,  have won the Third Prize in the CCF TCARCH Customized Computing Challenge 2022.

Customized Computing Challenge is hosted by CCF TCARCH (中國電腦學會體系結構專委會) and jointly organized by Center for Energy-Efficient Computing and Applications of Beijing University and AMD-Xilinx. It is a national competition which aims to nurture computer architecture talents, stimulate students' interest in computer architecture, and develop students' innovative spirit. This year, it has attracted 78 teams from 59 universities in mainland China and Hong Kong to join the competition. The team is the top three in the competition.

Winning Second Prize in the Global Final of Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022

Mr CHENG Cheung Yu (INFE, Year 3) and Miss RUAN Yuyan (2022 CDE graduate), who formed a team with a student from Department of Computer Science, have won the Second Prize in the Global Final of Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022 under the Innovation category. The winning project, supervised by Dr Ray Cheung, is titled “CanSee 2.0: A Convenient, Efficient and Comprehensive Platform for Lung Cancer Diagnosis”.

The competition established in 2015 aims to provide students with a platform to exchange ideas, enhance their ICT knowledge and practical skills and increase their ability to innovate by using new technologies and platforms. This year, it has attracted 150,000 students from over 2,000 universities and colleges across 85 countries to join the competition.

The competition organized by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among the young generation. It is a platform facilitating students to further develop their potential, sharpen their presentation and interpersonal skills and become future innovation and entrepreneurship leaders.

Winning Silver Medal in 2022 ICPC Asia Kunming Regional Contest

Mr HUANG Yixiao (INFE, Year 3), who formed a team with two students from Department of Computer Science, has won the Silver Medal in the 2022 ICPC Asia Kunming Regional Contest. Mr Huang has been trained by Dr Albert Sung and Mr Van Ting under the ACM-ICPC Training Workshops organized by EE Department, while the competition was led by Prof Minming Li of CS Department.

The contest hosted by Kunming University of Science and Technology attracted over 800 teams from over 300 universities in China, Hong Kong and Macau to compete for the awards.
