Winning Third Place at 2024 MATE ROV World Championship
The CityUHK Underwater Robotics Team has won the Third Place at the 2024 MATE ROV World Championship held in June at Meadowview Parkway Kingsport, TN, USA. The CityUHK team has participated in this competition since 2016 and the result achieved this year is the best ever. There were 21 teams from all over the world advancing to the world final to compete in the EXPLORE class.
The team, comprising 5 EE students and another 5 students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Mechanical Engineering, is supervised by Prof Ray Cheung (Professor, EE) and Prof Pakpong Chirarattananon (Associate Professor, BME & MNE).

The MATE ROV Competition is a prestigious international event that challenges student teams to design, build, and operate underwater robots to complete simulated real-world missions. The EXPLORER class is at an advanced level for universities, colleges and high schools that have previously participated in the competition.
